DIY #7: Dip-dyed shorts

What you'll need:
- Shorts
- Pair of gloves
- Pail
- Dyes
- Salt
Duration: 1.5 hours

Level of difficulty: 3/5

Here's a close look on the dyes which I bought from Self-fix, Jurong Point outlet. They are $3.60 per dye and of 4.5g. #18 Windsor purple, #15 Madonna blue.

Step 1: Wet your shorts with cold water as they absorb the dye better when damp.

Step 2: Fill the pail with 1L of hot water, add the whole tin of dye, and 1 ounce of salt. The instructions on the dye was to use 500ml but I found it too little and decided to twice the volume. My first colour was purple for the bottom of the shorts.

Step 3: Soak your shorts midway for about 1 minute and squeeze of the excess. This is after dying the bottom purple. The lighting cause the purple to look very bluish here. Injustice to the purple. :/

Step 4: Refill the pail was 1L of hot water and add blue dye and 1 ounce of salt. Dip the top part of the shorts into the dye. Leave in the dye for about 1 minute as well. The volume and salt can vary to how bright or light you would like the colours to turn out. Rinse off excess dye until water runs clear.

Step 5: Let the shorts dry before washing them.

Step 6: After washing the colour may drop a tiny bit, but the dip-dyed product is still DDG!

AND VOLA!
Paired the 'new' shorts with a plain base top to make it stand out LOUD!

*added studs to my shorts which you can purchase them from me :)

Current mood: HAPPY! Super satisfied with my shorts and can't wait to wear them out! :D

Thanks for reading!
